Isn't it the post mid 1990s sticker type that gives the year... perhaps rubbed so hard to read?

Ahh OK I don't know any way to decode that type. However happen to be chatting to a contact by mail at the moment and he'd a similar query with a serial number of the same format starting 96xxxxxx. He contacted Brunswick by email with that number and they gave him the engine age/details.

Just go on the brunswick down load centre , check s/n look at your horse power untill you find the manufactory year, then you can click on registrations and if it was registered then the date it was registered is the age of the obm. What hp obm? and I will look it up for you if you want me to.

ok I will have a look. and leave a msg for you later. Did you put a 0 in the front of the number 09840012
I have just checked it is a 1995/96 model year. I cannot get on the registrations to see when it was sold for its age.

Seems to be between 1995 and 1996
Open this link:
http://download.brunswick-marine.com/download/dosearch/@isnew/desc?mod=17&lang=EN&categories=Outboard$
Click on red icon left of "Outboard US/Europe sourced"
It's on page 15 (i think- I've closed it now)
List on left is hp of each engine variant, read "15" line left to right and your serial number falls between 1995 and 1996
Time on my hands this afternoon!

RibNet as we all know is a very powerful tool. There is always someone who can provide an answer to a question. Here I knew it was a matter of one email so I decided to assist. Our subsidiary in Poland is the Mercury Distributor for Poland just like E.P Barrus is in the UK.
