Mercury spares from America?

Has anyone had any dealings with http://www.dougrussell.com/ ?

I have to service the carbs. on my 90 4str. and am looking for on line spares. Got Doug Russell from a post on here a while back. Just thought I'd ask about them, before I commit any of my hard earned pension.

I'm guessing all I'll need are things like gaskets and 'O' rings and, just maybe, a dashpot, so shipping should be quick and easy.

'Why don't I go to my local dealer?' Because they're a 250 mile round trip at least and probably won't have the stuff in stock, and if they 'can order it', then so can I.

I have done it with success in the past but recently ordered some electronic bits and was charged around £18 for £50 worth of bits. reordered the same bits a few weeks later and was charged £50 for the same shipping on the same parts and when it turned up at the door I was accosted for yet another £19 COD on top of this.
Luckily I knew what it was from the address and refused delivery and claimed the cash back on my card, and got it!
The moral is, be sure of shipping charges and any taxes before ordering.
When I had the Yam I used a place over in Fife, bits were reasonably priced and usually turned up within the week. I would be tempted to ask around and get someone who will order and post bits within the UK. If you have part numbers this is usually just a matter of finding a dealer who knows what customer service is, I know not the easiest thing to do..........

Yeah Bruce. Thanks for that. If I order I'll be very careful. I meant to ask if anyone knew of someone in the UK who could provide the same service.

When the boat was new, the yacht centre here were Mercury agents, which is why we got that engine. Now they deal with BMP. Bloody nuisance.

Thanks Cookee, I'll maybe give him a ring as I'd rather deal with a UK firm, provided they don't just change $$'s into ££'s. Does seem amazing to me in this day and age that there doesn't seem to be, or I don't know of, a UK based equivalent of Doug Russell.

These are worth a look at - have used them recently for parts for a "major" swivel pin/ brkt replacement for a pal ... saved £££ or $$$ even with shipping and import duties.
They do use UPS which are a bit pricey compared with USPS but depending on what you need it should work out worth it. Delivery was 8 days - even though a number of parts were out of stock.

... and these are similar
