Mercury trim gauge with a Tohatsu?

Can anybody tell me whether a Mercury trim gauge will work with my '96ish 70hp tohatsu and Tohatsu control box?

If it does, how do I fit it and wire it up? Is there a wire coming out of the control box somewhere that I attach it to?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Thanks for the replies guys.

Dan, I don't know which one it is because I haven't bought it yet! I think its an older one but I would imagine it hasn't really changed much.

Paul, I have no idea! What does it look like and where do I find it?!

Cheers

Tim

It Depends if the trim gauge will read what the trim sender is sending. The Merc/Mariner senders have a single Brown/white wire that joins into the main harness and runs upto the control box end. That the goes on to the gauge were it says sender. You then have to set the sender in the correct place so when the engine is trimmed down the gauge reads the same.
I should think it would work as long as its an Anologe sender and not a digital one. Also make sure the sender is earthed to one of its mouning srews/bolts.

Probably best to speak to the importers, gauges work on resistance, most American motors are compatible, but some of the Japs aren't.
