Yep and when it overheats the internals expand and tighten up hence you couldn't pull it over, I'm afraid that's seized, when it cools the internals shrink freeing it up again, often the damage is done whilst tightening.

Fingers crossed that there's no damage Luke !
My Mercury 15 doesn't have a strong stream of water until the thermostat opens fully but it does have some water coming out of the tell tale ! I'd be very gentle with it for a while but it's unusual for an impeller to suffer catastrophic failure running in water !!
I'm certainly no expert but it's usually not a big job putting a new one in provided you make sure the thing's properly seated & the wedge that stops it rotating is seated properly.
Good luck.

surely the best person to ask would be the person at shrewsbury marine as he will know whats needed to fix it ?it realy depends on what the problem is, when he gives you a price by all means ask on here to see if any one has had a similar repair to see if cost is fair.

If its been heat seized your probably into new pistons.rings.little end bearings.rebore,,,gasket set....the problem is there is engine rebuilds and then there's engine rebuilds.....you've also got to look at why it seized..blocked water port supply? Impeller shaft bearings/bushes egg whisk engines aren't really my thing at the moment but the quality of services in our area I'm going to do my own work from now on

I haven't a clue as regards costs..the parts iv mentioned will probably b a minimum....it all depends if its picked up in the bores..the only way to find out is drop the head off..which again will cost on labour charges...some cylinders aren't designed to be remachened..

I've fried 3 times a Evinrude 15 HP due to water intakes blockage by algae, kelp, even a banan peel when at wot. Engine stopped in less than a minute and smoked worst than an indian. The engine was bit seized when pulling cord untill cooled down, impeller was found a rubber mess, completely melted against pump liner.

Other than melting some cable sheaths that were close to cylinder head, cleaning liner pump and replacing a new impeller, the only other parts required were a head gasket, thermostat, plugs and that's it. One issue is to overheat an engine at speeds less than wot, other at full wot. 1996 engine is still runing today...

Bear in mind that one thing is seizing an engine due to water overheat in which gererally you end up seizing pistons momentarily, other due to lack of lubrication in which you end up seizing and screwing forever the whole engine, bad music, costly repair...

Happy Boating
