Iv got a mariner 25hp yam based i have to fried that due to the water intake sucking a floating bag. Smoke everywhere Engine stopped let it cooled down for 5mins. Fired straight up had no issues

I've been told the piston r knackered so that is 250pound before anything else

I thought when you said it had melted wires it had been hot enough to do some propper damage..I'm having outboard issues myself at the moment lol

Only melted cable covers ye engine goin to cost me about 3 400i think by the sound of it

If you've melted wires and need a new piston I would expect it to cost more than £400 unless you were doing the work yourself - which I assume you aren't in a position to do.

I bought a 2004 tohatsu 18 ts electric start/charge and its imaculate looks and runs like new £750 and it cost me £50 in fuel to fetch it...is it not worth selling your as a non runner on ebay and buying something that hasn't been messed with???

Sounds like it's going to be expensive to repair. I'd be looking for a replacement secondhand and keep that for spares!
When you first ran it was there any telltale as it must have got really hot to damage it that badly ?
