It true that there is nothing like the sound of a big 2-stroke outboard on full chat, although some of the more modern ones don't have that certain something.

Even at tick-over its great.
When I run my DT200EFI up on the muffs to flush it, ie with no water round the leg, you get the full sensation, and the temptation to blip the throttle is just too much. It someimes draws in a couple of people at the yard who want to just stand, listen, and smell that 2-stroke oil.

I think its the 'crackling' noise. I used to think I'd never hear anything sweeter than the expansion chambers I had on an RD350YPVS years ago, but the Suzi does beat it.

Some might not agree, but the 3.2TD 4 pot I have in the Shogun also makes a lovely 'Crackle' early on a cold morning, so much so that I've been known to have the window open on cold mornings just to bring a smile to my face.

Nasher.

I know exactly what you mean mate; the first time I came to boats was with some old SIBs at my then local dive club with ex RNLI 40 Mariners. The first time they were started on muffs they just shouted "bike" at me (although in my case it was a TZ350G )

Yeah, I've got a 3.2 DiD. I hear 'half bricks bashing around in an empty cement mixer' when it fires up on a cold morning.

Must be something wrong with it Mollers, mine purrs sweetly until you put some load on it then it sounds like a line of rifles going off.
