New Prop quality
Been trying to buy a new prop for my Honda 50 and thought I'd pass this on. I tried a couple of propeller suppliers that have been mentioned on this site, one of which sent me a prop that sang its heart out at around 1200 rpm and the other sent me a prop of a completely different size to what I had ordered.
Both of the props seemed to me to be of lesser quality than my original 2014 Honda prop and not of the cleaver type that I had expected. There again they were 2 1/2 times cheaper than a Genuine Honda prop.
So not wanting any further inconvenience I settled for and ordered a genuine prop from my local Honda dealer. On arrival I checked it and found the prop blades and hub were 50% covered in a painted over grit, which felt like 60 grade sand paper . I refused to accept it and asked the dealer to order a replacement and to report my complaint to Honda UK.
The dealer was informed by Honda that it must be a manufacturing defect and would supply a replacement. When the replacement arrived it had exactly the same covering of painted over grit and Honda UK response to the dealer was" This is how they come and the rough finish would not affect the performance of the propeller".
Visually apart from the blade damage to my original prop, mine looked in better condition than the new one.
I wonder is this a sign of the times.
How is it that new outboard engines on display in showrooms seem to have perfectly smooth and shiny propellers.
