New steering cable. A bit heavy and 'clicky'

I've just replaced a steering cable for the first time, as the steering was stiff in places with some play in the wheel.

With the new cable the steering is smooth with no play, but feels a bit heavy and the Safe-T QC steering unit sounds clicky. I must confess, I never used the old cable with the hatches off and the engine not running so it may have always sounded like that.

Should I expect a new cable to 'wear in' at all or do I need to investigate the heaviness?

The old cable was Seastar, and the new one is Ultraflex.
