Oil leak from prop .

As I pulled my boat out from the garage I noticed a small amount of oil on the concrete floor on further inspection I noticed some oil on the back of the prop it looks very minimal and the total oil loss is about 2 teaspoonfuls , my question is,,,is it anything to worry about and will it be okay to take the rib on the bass fishing trip planned tomorrow .

Cheer's,

kerny .

Probably just unburnt 2 stroke oil coming out the exhaust. Could always check gearbox level to make sure it's not coming from there.

Can you tell by smelling it whether it is 2 stroke oil or gearbox oil?

Its gear oil I think . Its not coming from exhaust but at the back of the prop.

It would probably be worth: a) changing the gear oil and seeing if you have had water ingress. b) having the lower unit pressure tested to see if the seals have failed.

If it's emulsified, then the gear oil will be a creamy colour. Should be like honey.

I would have thought for that volume of 2- stroke oil to be dripping out you would have need to have been idling on premix for quite some time.......

Thanks for your replies guy's , when I had it out on the bassless fishing trip yesterday it ran fine , after flushing and cleaning it today there is no sign of any oil so maybe it was unburnt 2 stroke oil, it was black, and not creamy or like honey as spartacus indicated . It's going for a service soon so I will have it checked .
