Optimax 200 or Yam V200 ????

I'm getting a 7.2M RIB and have yet to decide which engine.... i have short listed these two.... i've heard that:

Optimax: not as well built, less refined, lighter, ultimately faster
Yam: better built, more grunt, heavy, 2k more

What would you choose and why ???

Are you interested in the Yamaha Vx200 or the Vmax 200? They are two very different engines!

yamaha

hi spoke to yamy main office in UK yesterday who advised only the ones in europe already will be available as they are NOT 3 star rated, might be worth checking availability as the 250 di are gone now apparently!

I heard that too Mike ! something about EU regs... f****ng belguim brigade !!

Apprently... the 200hp is approved... and as such i should still be able to get one... there is only 1 left in the holland depot apprently !!?? but not sure if thats a cunning sales pitch...

and it is the VMax HPDI 200hp that i am refering to Richard B....

if anyone has any alternatives... or one sitting in their stock room then please let me know... Although i hear the Dealer meeting is in 3 weeks which may or may not reduce the price of the 06 models... should there be any left... and prices... the best i've got so far is £9,950... then another 600ish for controls ect... getting it fitted on to the 7.2M Leeway - and no, i don't want your opinion on the boat !

In that case, go for it! Check out the specs, I'm sure it's lighter than an Opti 200. Just be aware that you can't get an XL.

I'm 100% sure you could get a 200 opti for a lot less money

the opti is over 2k cheaper... but i plan to have the rib for 10+ years (i've had this one for 28 years with only 2 mercury outboards - a blue band 40hp - classic bit of kit... and a 1995 50hp ept) and i use it twice a week... so i'd rather fork out a few grand more and be happy with it i reckon

Why go with an Opti then? Surely the more modern technology of an Etec would more "future proof"!
