Optimax engine bus
Ok all went well today on the sea trial. Only niggle was the engine bus alarm coming on intermittently and losing all the smartcraft stuff. Is there a particular connection I need to look at?

Have you got a permanent live to the master switch from the gauges?
Were the gauges totally turning off, needles dropping to 0 etc?

Yes have a permanent live. Guages losing info and locking up. Not turning off.

What's your charging output showing? If it's both gauges it's got to either be a crap contact somewhere or a voltage spike.

I'd start on the round rubber one just below the ignition.
if they're locking up, could it be a 'last known state' that they're displaying that you're seeing?

That makes sense. I wasn't quite sure exactly what you meant by 'losing data'.
Reading the diagramme, I think the grey wire is the signal, though the brown/white shorting out could possibly cause a problem.
Could also be a bad earth.

GRey wire from smartcraft loom, into main loom.
It goes all the way to the outboard and (on the 135 diagramme) also doubles up as an analogue tacho feed which would make sense. It'd be relatively easy to send digital data along that.

Sorry, I wasn't clear there.
Pin 7 on the 8 pin plug under the cowling, and pin B on the round rubber plug on the harness that joins the gauges to the controls.

Since I remade the connection under the cowl. Brown with a white tracer, this is all good. No data bus fault at all.

Worth knowing-my speed was freezing up occasionally when I sea trialled mine. I'll have a look at mine too-cheers.
