Optimax re Fourstroke

If you had the option to re-engine a 5.85 RC (surprise ) what would you buy and why?

175 opti. Only cos I know/like them and it's not let us down. Thousands of units produced and proven tech these days.

Depends as always on your useage.

If not that it'd be a suz 4s as they seem very reliable/economical and quiet, max hp allowed.

Predictably a 150 Etec 'cos it's a 2 stroke & that's what an outboard should be

Not a 175 on a boat rated to 150

But.... Opti 150.

There is a you tube clip somewhere with a 585 and 150 verado. It jumps out of the water. Not sure if you can still get the 150 though

Same block and weight. Hence the 175 would be nice, ;-)

175 opti doesn't exist any more as far as I can tell :-(

Would be one of my top choices if I were to re-engine my boat.

150 Verado video looks impressive.

I'd look long and hard at the new Merc 150 4 stroke.

Light - Check
Efficient - Check
Good value - Check
User Service - Check

Shame really but I believe the difference in price from 150-175 was disproportionate, you almost had to spend the same as the bigger 3.0 block 200. So v few were sold evidently. We have one though, whoop! Happened to be on the ex demo we bought.

I,d look at all 2or 4 st in the max hp then start knocking them down by lack of local dealer support, cost of ownership etc

Have you seen where he lives?

I'd guess there's no dealer within a days drive. ;-)

Billy has more marinas/boat yards/boat services on his doorstep than us in the centre of the country could ever hope for.
