Optimax Winterising

This outboard malarky is a bit new too me - I usually winterise the other boat just by plugging the heater in (inboard engine, parked outside my house)

With a V6 optimax, I note that it says to :
1. Sling some Quicksilver Quickstor into the tank and run the motor until warm to give it time for the additive to make it's way through the fuel system
2. Pull the spark plugs and squirt some DFI oil into each cylinder.
3. Finally, leave it trimmed down.

Is that it? I'll be taking all the rigging out of the boat as soon as this is done, so need to make sure it's all winterised properly since it might be a bit tricky to redo if I miss an important step.

A good idea to Remove the battery and leave on charge

Ta. Yes, battery and all rigging is coming out to address the mess of wiring that seems to be pretty standard on many boats! It's not the worst I've seen - but far from tidy.

Matt,

If you have time it would be worth changing out the gearbox oil now to see what it's like. Hopefully clean, but if its gone milky with water, then best not leave it all winter like that. Whilst your doing that, drop the box and have a look at the water pump. Thin smear of petroleum jelly when putting it back in makes it easier and it won't stick over winter.

Replace fuel filter?

Check alternator/compressor belt?

Check trim/tilt fluid.

Grease in the steering and saddle etc.

Check anode.

Touch up any paint scratches. Wax outboard hood.

Tuck away in nicely heated garage with a blanket so it can breath.

Pete

You know me Pete.
Filters, gearbox oil, plug, DDT check, belt were all done in the last month.
Will be re-rigging the boat over the winter, so as part of that will take gearbox off, which needs a bit of paint anyway since it got a bit nasty being left in the water for some of the summer.

Anodes - are actually sitting near me right here, too.

The arrow gets the space at home under the tent with the heaters - so the rib will have to make do with a cover over it @ drivers.

Seem to remember chatting with you in Drivers and leaning on the transom. Eventually you asked what I thought of the paint work. Hadn't even noticed it was painted, matched the rest of the white GRP hull perfectly

One of my very rare successes at painting.
But those were the days eh, lots of laughs all round, especially when Stu was around.
