outboard size

Hello, I have a 3.2 Suzumar Sib rated to take a 15 hp engine, but I wonder if it could take a mariner 20 hp 2 stroke that I was looking at. Any advice please. thanks

It would, but
1) you won't need the extra HP
2) It'll try and turn over backwards with 20hp
3)You'll have insurance issues if you overpower it by 33% and have an accident.

The insurance issue would bother me more-one idiot could ruin you.
It could be over weight for the transom as well.

That's quite substantially overpowered, and in reality you're probably not going to ever use it unless it's flat calm and there's 2+ people in the boat. Solo it'd be dangerous.

If you don't have legal issues go for a Tohatsu 18 HP, 2 strokes engine, it's same size as any other 15 including same weight, being a fast responder, throttle less than wot when underway to plane.

Happy Boating

I've got a tohatsu 18hp on a 15hp rated SIB. It doesn't feel dangerous at all but I rarely need to use it at WOT unless there's 3 people in the boat.
