Outboard valuation
Hi I have an early approx 1973 Evinrude 25 (Sportster?)This came with my Sib.It had new spark plugs,Condensors and points about 6 months ago and ran fine but then the pull rope snapped and its been sat in the shed since.I will replace the pull rope so it can be run up.Being totally truthfull i have only run it in a drum not on a boat and it could do with a paint up but it does run ok.I would recommend a full service/check over before going out to sea.Engine only no fuel tank,Will post up some pics when i get back home later in week.
Any idea on what its worth?
Pete

Personally I'd say it's worth absolutely nothing; it's nigh-on 40 years old.

Personally, I know that that's bollox.
Anyone seeking to power a 40yo 'classic' would be interested in a 40yo tidy runner of the correct spec. and size.

I wouldn't be; we're talking about safety at sea here not a quick run up Beaulieu Hill in a classic car.

Just 'cos it isn't for you, doesn't mean it's worthless.

I was happy enough to pay £250 last year for a 25 Johnson, 40yr old, Serviced, Electric start, Needed painting. And it hasn't missed a beat. If it breaks tomorrow it wont be the end of the world.

I have had in the garage for the last 20 years a 1966 Johnson 20HP i took it as part payment for a job i did.
Recently my father bought himself a boat and needed an an engine so i pulled it out the garage chucked some fuel at it and it started straight away, just becouse its old does not mean it not reliable and worth selling.

Precisely why most 'classics' keep to inland waters.

In my experience they can be just as dangerous. Is this 'classics' thing a whole area of boating I wasn't aware of ?

The water is perfectly safe. Your trouble is that you refuse to stay in it
