Just guessing & buying random parts in the hope you guessed right can soon get expensive, fenlanders suggestion of finding out if it is fuel or ignition is sound advice & could avoid changing unnecessary parts

Yes I agree. I have spoken to Bill Higham Marine who deal with Parsun and I have sufficient information and schematics to feel confident to clean out the carburettor and check the fuel pump first of all before spending any serious money

Thanks

Did you get to the bottom of the problem?

Hi Andy thanks for asking. I have stripped and replaced all seals of carburettor and cleaned it. New fuel filter but I haven’t had chance to try it believe it or not. I had a set of mufflers delivered last week so I am planning on giving it a try with our first season looming. I am wandering how long you should run an outboard through mufflers or tub/bucket as ideally I need to run it past 20 mins to half hour<

Personally I wouldn't run an outboard for any length of time on muffs. I use them and they are ok for flushing out after boating on the sea.
I use a big builders tub when running the outboard for any length of time, ensuring that the water in the tub is kept topped up.

Hi that’s what I have currently and it’s always full to the brim when being run. I assume if I adopt this method it simulates being in the water and I should be okay running it first as long as I like ?

It doesn't exactly simulate running in water at speed, but it's the closest you'll get to it without actually being out on the water. When you're running it though, don't leave it alone. Always keep an eye on the water level making sure it's always topped up.

You can run either for way beyond 20mins. Just be careful with the bucket option. Make sure the tell tale is spraying back into the bucket, or keep a hose in the bucket instead to keep the water level above the cavitation plate. If it drops below the water intake on the lower unit you'll overheat and likely ruin the impellor/pump housing.

If you're going with muffs then you need to be certain they're nice and solid on there and won't come off with vibration. In either case, it would be best not to leave it unattended.

I never leave it unattended as I’m trying to identify times of cut out and yes the hose keeps the bucket to overflowing all the while I run it. Gonna try it later on hopefully if it doesn’t rain. Will give an update how I get on thanks
