Parsun Outboard...

Hi all..

Thoughts wanted on the following.

I own a 3.1m SIB and currently use an 8hp 2 stroke Yam which is great.

However, for use 3 up with gear, and to give a bit more power on estuary waters I'm looking at upgrading to a 15hp. I don't want to part with the 8hp Yam as this is perfect for inland waters (mainly the Lakes). In a perfect world I'd buy a new Yam/Tohatsu etc. but obviously these come at a premium cost. I'd prefer 2 stroke like my 8hp, but obviously these cannot be bought new as it's leisure use only.

I've read a few (very good) reviews of the Parsun brand. But at 1200 quid brand new for a 15hp short/tiller - is it too good to be true that these Chinese copies are really THAT good?

Anyone any thoughts on this? Been looking at pre owned 15hp 2 stroke Yam and decent ones are around 300 quid more than a new Parsun....[emoji44]

All comments gratefully received...

Ian

Watch the weight of those Parsons... I think the 15hp 4-stroke is about 50kg.

I don't like that the spares network is almost zero... just one or two UK dealers.

Personally I'd rather a 2006 15hp main brand 2-stroke than a brand new Parsun for broadly the same cost.

I pretty much agree Fenlander...

Trouble is, I can't find anything less than £1500 and they aren't exactly in mint condition either...

I'd like the Tohatsu.. But that's a grand more than Parsun. But a better bet. Not much more than a pre owned 2 stroke 15hp...
