PERKINS inboard diesel

I found a PERKINS 300Hp on a very special offer and I hope to be able to rigg my new boat with it.

I have never heard much about the PERKINS range, these days everyone seem to talk only about YANMAR, YAMAHA,or VOLVO PENTA when it comes to diesel inboard for RIBS.

Any comment about PERKINS SABRE is welcome.

Alain,

Things to consider ... power to weight ratio - you want the most power for the least weight! Not sure how the Perkins measures up in this respect. Also needs to be high revving, so if its designed for heavy displacement boats it won't be any use in a RIB. Also can you get an outdrive to fit it? Not heard of Perkins / Outdrive combinations.

One company that might be able to give you some helpful advice is Lancing Marine in the UK. (www.lancingmarine.co.uk). They supply diesels, sterndrives etc etc.

HTH,
Alan

Perkins Sabre would normally be used on High Performance Shaft drive boats .

They would have a fairly good reputation over here . We also have several dealers here in Ireland

Best wishes ,

Thanks both.
Powerboat, do you know if they can be coupled to a specific sterndrive?

No offence intended to the list ! .............The details I have involve a third party's private contact details so it would not be appropriate to post them to the list .

He is one of my Instructors and in his other life works for a leading work boat manufacturer who are presently doing a lot of work with high performance Perkins Sabre engines .

Best wishes ,
