Practicalities of replaceing Hamilton Jet with Stern Drive

Recommended Stern Drive for Volvo Penta D4-225.

I am looking into the possibility of replacing our current Hamilton Jet with a stern drive on our Zodiac 630.

The Hamilton Jet will not switch from ahead to astern under load. the pump and piston work fine out of the water but will not operate when the boat is in the water.

There is also an oil leak directly into the sea when refilling oil, suspected cracked casing or inter cooler.

The boat is also used as a rescue boat so the propulsion would have to be wheel marked.

If anyone can provide any helpful advice, recommendations and/or pitfalls to avoid please do not hold back.

Mike

I'd recommend repairing what you have. Changing from jet to stern drive is a reasonably major undertaking because you'll need to do something with the hole where the jet drive sits. Is the RIB aboard another vessel?
