Pre-mix ratio for 2000 2cyl 2str 40hp Mariner?

The Mariner user's guide that I have states a premix ratio of 50:1, but the official looking quicksilver sticker on the engine states 100:1. I have always gone for 50:1 as thats what I've always used in outboards.

100:1 seems a pretty low ratio - is there any reason why my model may need less oil? I spend most of the time at high revs and change plugs frequently, so fouled plugs arent too much of a problem, but I am concernened for the long term health of my engine- will the 50:1 cause overheating in the pistons and am I wasting oil?

As always a choice between the lesser of two evils - grateful for a steer as to the right choice!

Thanks

Ed

We reccomend 50:1 for Commercial use and 100:1 for lesuire use. If you put loads of hours on your engine a year probably stick with 50:1 if not i would use 100:1 it will half your oil bills!!!
