Preventative maintenance on EFI engines?

Whilst I like to think I maintain my DF200 impeccably, at some point something (probably electronic) is going to fail and spoil a trip. It's getting on for 9 years old now and I wonder if I should replace things like crank position sensors or MAF's before they fail. Having had similar things fail on cars that are perhaps a little older at least when that happens you just pull over to the side of the road and walk home.

I'm a big believer of 'if it ain't broke don't fix'. Could you carry spares instead? Sensors don't take up much space.

I think that as an engine gets older hidden corrosion would be one of the main issues I think a good going over every now and again to look out for any problems before they get a hold

True, but I'm not sure about the practicalities of replacing some of the sensors outside of a workshop.

Certainly I agree, however generally corrosion is visible and somewhat predictable whereas sensor failure is just random.

Idle control valve is common on zuke motors. They are only 30 quid oem, a few of our cousins across the pond carry them to swap at sea.

However, if you buy one sods law says you won't need it.

Can you come up with a better reason to buy it?
