Paul they haven’t really gone up much since I bought mine three years ago. I found the best way was to phone round local dealers as there was discounts out there and there was marked differences. Hope you find a good deal. J

Just to clarify, I assume you mean the new v6 model just released and if so there is no 250hp version I've seen...yet??. It is 175, 200 and 225.
Last tango just bought a 150 and there was thousands of a difference in prices he was getting so worth calling about.
If it is the new v6 you want then I assume won't be many deals to be had as so new and by all accounts selling like hotcakes in USA.

Really useful cheers. So a 200hp 4s is only 5-10kg heavier than a 175hp 2.5L Optimax.
Our Humber is rated to 200hp.
How much will the “2018” Merc 4s be though?

Can't help with that one as never heard a g2 but there is a massive difference noise wise from an opti to 4 stroke at idle/slow speeds but the faster you go the difference evens out somewhat, but the difference is still there.
As an example, I was out with someone who has an optimax recently and while in neutral I could hear his boat maybe 50 yards away over mine. Generally with mine you can only hear the water stream....which is how I know it keeps blocking which is another story.

Alwyn and Geg at Dulas did a great deal for us on the 200hp Yam. Supposedly best outboard in the 200hp market closely followed by the Suzi 200hp.

Probably "best" 200 is the new Merc on paper. If pricing is decent and they dont have many problems the others may struggle to shift any significant quantity of engines unless amazing deals. Suzuki and yamaha need to up the game in the 200hp ish range now, both had or still have v6 blocks so they may do something. We as consumers can only benefit from that though.

IF...Is the big question..and defiantly not answered "on paper"...a Balance of New innovation ...and proven track record is a Balance to be struck by the serious user.
IMO Time Proven tech performance and resiliance (especially on Sea going Boats!) is always a big plus
.....the list of "the next big thing" in Marine Power units which ultimatly fail to live up to the Sales Hype is quite extensive

Mercury have a decent track record with the 150 NA and there isn't a whole lot to go wrong compared to their verados for arguments sake but time will tell.
However, if I was forced to buy a 200 tomorrow I would buy a Suzuki df200 but the v6 model. I don't think I would like a 4 pot on my boat after having a v6 with more capacity.
One thing mercury got wrong was the looks on this new engine, I think they seen the ugliest outboard ever made in the g2 and the merc designer gave it a hold my beer moment.

My yam 200 is the F200 which is a 4 cylinder and significantly lighter than the V6. Not much to choose between yam v6 and the 4cyl. There are a number of comparisons on the web.

With the new mercury the weight is even less and it is a high capacity v6....win win perhaps for my heavy boat..IF it is reliable. How the heck they got it so light I wonder though

some new engines are getting lighter, some not.
for example 200HP Evin g1 XL weight 194 kg, Evin g2 XL 249 ...
And G2 has oil tank inside engine, g1 outside.
About new Mercury I like idea of big displacement
I had 3.5V6 car and now I have newer version of the same car still the same engine. Consumption in the city is 25% better. Had not chance to test it on the long trip but expected also 15-20% less. Acceleration on paper is even better on new version
