Problems with Volvo D6 -

The wonderful Volvo D6 - or is it !!!

One of our boats has a D6 installed, during June it kept sticking in forward gear , pretty dangerous !!!!!!, and to make matters worse 2 weeks out of warranty ( always happens ) contacted the local Volvo dealer in Northern Ireland and after 3 months of hassle informed me it needed a new Cone in the leg, New Cone ! it had only 90 hours on the clock. VOLVO DID`nt WANT TO KNOW..... To cut a long story short after a repair bill of £1100 they tell me that this is the first time they have had this problem, so rib net family does anyone Know of anyone with the same engine / leg and that may have had the same problem .

Regards and thanks

Volvo D6 problems??

[Surely someone out there has some input or relevant info on the Volvo D6, good or bad?
With the vast amount of knowledge throughout this entire forum including the fact that all or at least most of the marine manufactures, builders, dealers, suppliers etc, etc, constantly monitor and view this super forum, it must be possible to help this member in his hour of need!
Come on all you Volvo importers, dealers, suppliers, installers, give this person some of your vast knowledge and advice.

I had a number of serious warranty claims on my new D6 about 3 years ago. (But not gear problems). The importer and I both pressurised Volvo and in the end they gave me an extra 12 months warranty after all the items were fixed.

Can you not put pressure on your Rib manufacturer to push Volvo for a bit of support??

Thanks for the advice, spoke to Volvo at the Southampton boat show, not there problem, out of warranty. They think the problem was during installation, but will not put that in writing.

Boat builder disagrees, but has stopped installing Volvos due to the lack of help from them !!! Have two yamaha 421`s installed in the 11m, parts are expensive but you do get a great back up / support from Yamaha.

Ps. This is not a Redbay Boat, was built by Excaliber ribs - Cork

Cheers
