Last Sunday

Just bought a 585 with Suzi 140: Got 42.1 knts by GPS flat and trimmed out on Sotton water, nice and calm. I would like 45, am using the standard Suzi prop, is the stainless worth going for and how much are they? anyone got a second hand one in good nick for sale?

I only managed 40.2 knotts out of Biggles 585, but I'm sure that he's got the figures writen down of some tests he was doing earlier this year.

I was the same with a standard prop. Have managed 42.5 Knots with a 22" prop and haven't tried to go faster since as I'm happy with that and I don't want to wreck the engine.
Below is the link from the thread I Hightower refers to. The major improvement I got from changing props was the cornering ability. Far less losing grip on tight turns. And I'm still waiting for a stainless prop so can't pass judgement on them.

SS Prop

Hi

For a Suzuki 16X22 SS prop your best deal is at Browns Point Marine (USA), www.store.brownspoint.com. Current price is $356 (excl carriage and duty) , very cheap for this product. I also get my filters and anodes from them!!

Can anyone say what advantages the Stainless Prop gives over the Aluminimum on this configuration ?

I know they have perceived diffeences I just wondered if anyone had tried both and what if any difference they had found. If you can get 45 Knots out of a Suzuki DF 140 with a Ribcraft 585 that might be worth investing in.

No chance, Roycruse runs a 21"P stainless and gets a nads over 40knts on a good day. IBWET reckoned he was up there running the new Suzuki 150 with a 23"P prop, but the handling was a bit scary.

As said earlier I get 42.5 Knots. Only once though and now I've done it I'm not prepared to push my engine at WOT just to beat that figure.
Really I like to cruise about 30 Knots and would be happy to do that in most conditions without coming unstuck.
Binky if you want speak to Kieron at RIBSHOP he's done a lot of research in to our engines. Helped me anyway.

Regards NR.

Drop DJL a PM if you get a chance. He's been a bit quiet recently, but if memory serves he ordered a 585 with Yamaha F150, which Ribcraft reckoned would be pushing the max hull speed, so may be worth asking what he's found.
