propeller venting suzuki df 140

I recently put a Suzuki df 140 on my zodiac pro 550. I have tried 4 different props with surprising results. the alum 14 x19 can pull about 63-6400 rpms ( should be between 6 -6200) and produced a top speed of 40 knots. I thought that the suzuki 14 x 20 stainless would be the ideal prop as the 1 inch of pitch should drop the rpms to 6-6200 which it has. I was surprised that i lost a knot or 2 as i thought i would of gained speed. i see that the stainless prop has 4 vent holes that dump exhaust in frt of the blades. should these holes be plugged? i cannot get much help from my local dealer. anybody have any ideals?
