Recommended Yamaha Service
At some stage in the not too distant future, my Yamaha 150A will need its first service. I have emailed one local dealer a few days ago but they have yet to respond - is there a good Yamaha service agent who'd visit the boat in Portsmouth and is approved (so he can stamp my warranty card)?
Thanks.....

I use Mark at http://www.mbmarine.co.uk/about_us.htm for my Yam 150 and 250, very good, I think he travels away from Southampton. Otherwise the new Ribeye agent at Warsach marine may be nearer

First service as in 10 hour, or first service as in 100 hour?
10 hour service is an inspection, and change the lube oil and gear oil.
100 hour is a bit more involved.
Don't know what you need to do over there to maintain warranty (in the US, you can do your own 10 hour, and most of the others if you can demonstrate the required steps were performed.)

I would highly recommend BHG Marine - http://www.bhg-marine.co.uk/
Their service center is based in Beaulieu, but they travel to Poole to service my F150 so they might do Portsmouth.

BHG, would get my vote, used them for 20 years, they are great....
But for a first service it doesnt really matter, as long as you get it done, and keep the record.

I'll take a look at BHG.
I phoned Yamaha today just to check on their warranty conditions and they tell me that servicing must be done by an authorised Yamaha agent or the warranty will be invalid.

Ambushing this forum slightly but on the same area concerning Neil and his Yam service, what are the rules for warranty for engine servicing. Yamaha are stating that if a person does not have a Yam service dealer doing the service they will invalidate the warranty.
I am aware that car dealers tried this years ago and the EU stated it was unlawful and the warranty would stand if the service had been done to a specified level and documented to the same, so I suppose this meant a Ford car could be serviced by a Vauxhall oulet provided the servicing was completed as the time periods/mileage and to specification.
If this is the case why are Yamaha telling Neil not to go to a respected dealer/agent who was one of their top listed for years as a Yam service agent but does not have their agency now? Is this lawful for warranty cover on outboards?

Not an ambush - good question!
As it happens, MB are advancing their status with Yamaha and my preference is use them as they are the only agent who have replied to my emails. They expect approval soon which solves the issue.
However, back to your question, I suspect if I pushed the issue, Yamaha might concede if EU law has set a precedent. But the warranty record statea that records must be filled in and signed by a 'Yamaha Authorized dealer'.

I think you are referring to Volkswagen (and possibly BMW) who stated that their warranty was invalid if the car wasn't serviced by a VW agent. From memory, the EU ruled that as long as a warranty claim wasn't brought about by inadequate servicing, or bad practice (lack of knowledge for example) then the warranty should be honoured.
Just to emphasise the message they fined VW several hundred million €s. However, for God's sake, don't base a legal challenge on my ramblings because I haven't taken my medication today. Wibble!
