Cant see what harm would be done, should help to clean the carbs and aid in decoking the head,

just looked on the fuelset website,250ml treats a 1,000 litres of fuel, for 11quid...thats a hell of a saving, just a niggle... can an outboard become addicted to these products like a tractor or desiel engine becomes addicted to ..easy start

Engines don't get addicted to easy start! People do!

People who use Easy start are getting around a problem with the engine not starting. If you don't fix the problem then you'll always need the easy start to get things going, hence why people think they are addicted.

But it's the people who use Easy start that are the addicted ones They're just too lazy or tight to get the engine fixed.

My definition of easy start is turning a key instead of pulling a rope!

easy start
using easy start on a diesel engine it WILL get adidicted to the damn stuff because when the diesel is injected into the bore it is a relitivey slow burn, when you use easy start it is a sudden bang and the piston rings after a while start to break up, with petrol engines it can have the same efect but over a longer period, the moral is DONT USE THE BLOODY STUFF

Bollox, I'm with Hightower, the reason ANYONE uses easystart is because there's not enough compression (or glow plugs,) to generate the heat, to ignite the diesel. A year later and it's "addicted" because it won't start without it!

The other bit of logic behind engines getting addicted to easy start is that you are starting with a presumably half fked engine if you are even considering using it (often this is poor compression due to bore wear / knackered rings) and then pouring vast amounts of strong solvent into the bores (the easy start) which will wash the oil off the bores causing the rings to scrape up and down with little or no lubrication and thus make the bore wear even worse... vicious circle!

problem with using easy start is that it ignites in the cylinder before the diesel fuel has chance to propely burn at the right time causing pre ignition which in turn can cause piston crown cracking ,
with regards to it washing off the oil in the rings i wouldent have thought that it would get in there in such a vast quantity going through the normal air intake as its Either based an evaporates fast .i thought that easy start brand came out in the late 1940s for use in truck or tractors as most diesel engines in those days usually had poor batterys and wouldent start too good in cold weather .it saved holding a burning newspaper infront of the air intake.

with regards to redex a rep from the company told us years ago it was just a light oil with a few exciting words on the label .

Not a lot of point in that. Cleaning them properly is a better bet.
