Refurbishing/repairing aluminium propellors ?

I have one and know of three more 3x13 1/4 x 17 x K aluminium propellors that need refurbishing from a 1" tip bend on one blade to serious bends on all blades etc.

Who refurbishes aluminium propellors at (importantly) at what cost?

If so no idea, I have used steel develements in the uk

I suspect you're going to find that repair + (shipping x 2) will be close to or over the price of a new prop.

I have (sort of) repaired a prop I nailed a rock with using a hammer and the aluminum brazing stuff (Alumaweld? Something like that), but have not used it in anger yet. It's designated a 2nd backup for my North Coast (California) trips.

I'm in St.Kitts Leeward Islands.

I have four props that I know of to be repaired. The more props I get it will be cheaper (freight wise) to ship them off for refurbishment.


Wondered if anyone here knew of a good place in say Miami to have them repaired.

Shipping to UK not out of question. I have (friends and family) that could put them in an extra bag (+/-£40.00 each way) take them and bring them out on their next trip.

Do www.steeldevelopments.net give you a guarantee?

Don't know about a guarantee but they come back almost like new

Might toss a post onto thehulltruth.com . Lots of Floridians on there (or at least used to be.) Should be able to find a prop repair shop there, given the shallow water and number of boaters.

I was rather apprehensive of changing the damaged prop on the 85hp Yamaha.

Geared up with a 'home made puller'.
A 4" diameter disk, 1/2" thick, with a 3/4" centred bolt and three slots at noon, 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock and some fairly heavy wire to connect it to the prop blades.

All set up.

Standing in shallow water . . . expecting various bits to be dropped and disappear forever in the sand.

Split pin came out fairly easy.

Nut undid easily.

Washer came off no problem.

Then to my complete surprise the prop
slid off as smoothly as can be.

Replacement was no problem either.

Much concern for nothing.
