Replacing impeller

Hi guys

Trying to replace the impeller on my yam 30 2 stroke.
I’ve got to the point of having the lower unit bolts undone, and gear linkage undone , but after that I just cannot get the lower unit off at all. It’s just don’t budging.. tried a block and hammer, but no. Anyone any advice?

Phil

Hi mate - yeah I thought that but I can’t see how that would affect it considering I’ve disconnected the gear linkage from the shifter..
I’m hearing rumours of a bolt under the cavitation plate.. I didn’t check there so maybe I’ve missed a bolt

There is a bolt going up the way under the anode on a 3 cylinder engine but not on the 2 cylinder engine

Thanks Davie.

It was there on my 40hp 3-cylinder and can't remember how I used to do it on my 25hp, but that was a 2-cylinder as you mentioned.

If all bolts are off on the leg and the gear linkage is in neutral then it should come off (assuming gear linkage it isn't connected further down?) Could be splined drive shaft is seized. Whack the anti cavitation plate with a rubber mallet supporting the leg properly.

You can also check these drawings - if you know outboard model and year of manufacture.

Cheers for the help guys. I was indeed missing the 5th bolt under the trim tab! Muppet!!
Annoyingly when I when to undo it, it was absolutely seized. Despite cautious attempts it ended up shearing. Luckily managed to get the lower unit off, changed the impeller and was able to extract the sheared bolt quite easily and replace it. Greased all the bolts liberally upon reassembly!
