Replacing Manual Gas Assist Tilt

The manual gas assist tilt on my mariner 40hp is failing making it very hard to raise and lower.
I have found a second hand unit after a bit of searching and am going to take a punt on it being better than the one it is replacing.

Has anyone replaced one and what is the best way of going about it? I presume tilt engine up and lock with the locking bolt but, also support the skeg / prop end to make sure. Then is it just a case of undoing the retaining bolt on the transom bracket and the one attached to the engine, take off and do the same in reverse to replace?
