I've no idea why it's not wise, and I'm a mechanic.

By "not using it", do you mean not running it in water, or with a water feed maybe? That would indeed be bad.

The biggest problem I have with running my outboards at home is that the smell of the fumes makes me wish I was out on the boat and not stuck at home getting outboard pee all over my crocs.

There's an Ignore button somewhere if he's grating

Ther is no specific post or link. It is about generally not getting the engine fully up to temp as you would when using it normally. It is particularly true on larger inboards but applies also to outboards but not so much.

If you don’t believe me that is of course your prerogative. Continue to do as you wish it is of course your engine

So your saying that running an OB for 15 mins won't get it upto working temperature?

.......Ther is no specific post or link.......

Then why say search for it on Google

....... It is particularly true on larger inboards but applies also to outboards but not so much......

Then why mention it at all. There is nothing worse than someone giving bits of information.
Stop trying to be clever and belittle others all the time, it makes you look like a prick.

I think what you ment to say was "make sure you get the OB upto working temperature to "burn" off any condensation, otherwise you could cause some damage"

Weeeell, his current username does highlight/caution that he's a novice

If we decide to get agitated every time someone on the internet is wrong, it'll be a long thread. Worst part is that Dennis will be loving that it's all about him...

It's more that he tries to belittle others with his "superior" attitude. However your right, we should ignore him as he does tend to spoil good threads.
I for one was enjoying this thread by jb100, and reading people's opinions about the merits of 2 stroke and 4 stroke OBs

For my two penneth worth, I don't have an opinion either way. I've never had a 2 stroke (apart from chainsaws) and I've only had two 4 strokes, I can say that the 4 strokes have done approx 180hrs in 3 years between them, and never missed a beat. My only criticism would be the weight, but a 20hp 2 stroke is heavier.
