running engine dry

I have recently bought a mariner 125 2 stroke.the guy i bought it from told me its best to run it dry when storing it,which i have been dolng without a problem.
The engine does not have a fuel feed conector on it, just has the end of the fuel pipe coming from the engine with a hose insert to conect the main fuel line.
If i fit a fuel conector will it cause a problem when running it dry as it would be sucking against a closed pipe. Thanks si
