search for a secondhand engine

Hi guys,
I've just entered into the world of boating and have bought an Avon FRB 3.80. Seems like a great bit of fun.
I'm now on the hunt for a second-hand 20hp, short shaft outboard to go with her.
I was wandering if anybody has any suggestions as to where I could find one! They seem to be very hard to come across as the few I've seem are long shaft.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

2 strokes not available for leisure users anymore so people hang on to them, short shaft normally more desirable.
Always see a motor run before parting with money.
Check that it starts ok, pumps water well and gears work ect.

where in Cornwall are you ?.

I am told that Robin ....... outboards from Penryn is a good dealer from someone with first hand experience , if your budget stretches to used dealers prices.
Buying secondhand is full of pitfalls if you are new to it, take a mate that knows what to check if you can.

Will be out on carrick roads myself later in the year.

Look on Ebay, Gumtree or Facebook group pages like Boats and outboards for sale,Boats for sale in the southwest and many more, there are loads of small 2 strokes out there.
But beware there is a lot of C**p out there too, even from some of the so called dealers.
If you have no knowledge of outboards definitely take some one with you.
Good Luck

This is mine.

Guessing the FRB needs a tiller control, my engine is remote control, however a tiller could be fitted, PM me if your interested.

Hi Ribble

No shortage of outboards out there and no shortage of advice in here. Take your time.
Don't buy a banger for tuppence.

check it has a real serial number, with a dealer of that make of OBM. when I worked people gave me serial numbers that were not of that hp or completely fictishus. A service history with reciepts would be nice as well.
