Selva "Piranha" 9.9hp
Is this engine OK? I was looking at something a bit larger (than my Mercury 6hp) to put on my Zodiac 2.85m SIB.
It needs to be lightweight and this 4-stroke engine weighs 30.5kg.
My other option of course is the fabled Tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke but it would have to be a second hand one.
The boat is rated up to 8hp so I'm pushing it with these engines, I assume it will be alright. The max transom weight is 40kg

Stick with what you know. Parts would be difficult to source for the Selva since (from memory) the UK importer has long gone,
Unless it's uber cheap of course.

There's a company in Brighton called OUTBOARDS-DIRECT that claim to be able to supply the Selva range of engines.

Lightning, Outboards Direct is a legitimate company, they are part of Oakley Marine (I may have that name slightly wrong). Some Selva's are/were based on Yamaha engines (different badges) but I'd certainly want to be sure of that in this case before using that to justify a purchase. Because Selva have a poor/unknown reputation in the UK the resale value will be rubbish compared to the equivalent Yamaha. Selva has been discussed here not that long ago if you do a search.
Personally I'd rather have the second hand Tohatsu than a new Selva.

Me too
And I thought it was a based on a reverse engineer Yamaha not actually built by Yamaha, not sure as I don't go near them so it's not something I keep up on

Previous threads ( http://www.rib.net/forum/f36/are-sel...aha-34954.html) imply rebadge rather than copy, but give Outboard Direct a call they sell Yamaha's too and in my experience were very good with general advice.

Selva Outboards
The link which Channel Ribs gave should now be working .... understand the links from the Selva Marine U.K. site to the main site in Italy were down but are now o.k,
If you are interested in the Piranha 9.9 suggest you talk to Outboards Direct (Oakley Marine) as there is an order book situation on this model and delivery time is around 4 weeks but understand this company should have a delivery of this model shortly.
