I think you may find quite a variation on this but for me with my last 90 Suzuki 2012 model I was buying the service kit myself which was around $130 or £ 80. I use a fully qualified mobile mechanic who has a fantastic reputation making him quite difficult to get at times. He charges $70 or £ 40 per hour and takes around 1-30 mins at most.

He is still able to stamp the service book meaning no problems with warranty having the work done at home but the best thing for me is he doesn't mind showing me how to maintain or fix any issues that could arise from things like water getting in the fuel etc and where all the powerhead anodes are etc.

A service at a dealers would be around $600 or £250. Most manufactures have a rate for certain services and simply stick to those rates even if it takes 1/3rd the time the rate allows. If your dealer quotes a high price ask if they would allow you to watch the service, then watch them squirm.

Did they give you a break down for parts and labour ?

The guy who used to do my Suzuki untill he passed away from cancer was one of the biggest Suzuki dealers here, he also was a teacher at Wollongong Uni for outboard mechanics. The most he ever charged me for labour was 1 hour ( service kit I bought myself ).

I don't mind paying for good workmanship and for the hours worked but nothing angers me more than getting ripped off by mechanics charging for a simple job most of us could do ourselves.

I think my local Suzuki dealer charges me $250-300 US for my yearly service on my 250. I’m three years in with a little over 200 hours. That’s just been oil, engine and lower unit, oil filter, impeller, and external fuel filter cartridge. They charge about $90/hour here for labor. No serious parts yet.
