Servicing Yamaha 4-strokes guide/help/advie

Hi everyone,

I've been asked to service a Yamaha F80 4 stroke outboard and would like a guide!

I am mechanically minded and now my stuff when it comes to boats and outboards but i've never serviced one and since its not mine - I dont want to get it wrong.

Thanks in advanced

Ur a better man than me.... I spent about 15mins on the yamaha site tryin to find that and all I could get was the flamin brochure lol.

Next question is which manual is the right one ?

As ive said previously, its not my engine and the engine isnt near me so cant get serial number etc. and the person who asked me to service it doesnt have a clue what year it is or for that matter the HP (its the family's mother im talking with).

But, Its a Four-stroke 80hp outboard and cant be more that 4 years old but when i scroll though the years i cant see a F80 anywhere ?

Also, Any proffesional marine engineers out there who have advice or a list of things to check/change/alter in the mean time !

Thanks again in advance !

Ok it's from 2002 but I bet it's the same engine - check to make sure.

Change oil - gear oil and impeller. Check/clean/adjust/change spark plugs.

probably about it. Oh and fuel filters of course. Check anodes.

Don't be daunted. Replacing an impeller is easy with the right tools

A Yamaha outboard dealer.
No insult intended but if you don't know how what to do (and you obviously don't) practice on your own engine first. If you screw up a full service on a 4 stroke, it can trash the motor before the crank has completed a revolution.

I've checked mine but not replaced it. Finding the above thread took away any head pain that could have happened. Needs two people in my opinion.

Note that these manuals are the Owners Manuals; not the Service Manuals. They tell you what needs to be done, but do not tell you how to do it.

The service manuals are available at cost (paper form only, as far as I know) from Yamaha.
