SOLAS certification on outboards

Hi, hopefully somebody can help me. I am doing a research for a thesis on Ribs as rescue vessels. Most of the time those vessels need a SOLAS certification and also on the engine.

Yamaha used to have a 2-stroke engine which had the Solas certification, but they do not make them anymore.

Does anyone know which brand/type has a Solas certification on its outboard engines?

gr.

Researched this issue earlier this year. Has anyone certified a 4 stroke yet for use on a rescue craft ?

As far as I am aware, the whole issue of 4-stroke certification is being discussed between various parties including the classification societies and is yet to be ratified by IMO.

I'm at IMO in the next couple of weeks and will look into this.

Thank you all, but are there also any 90hp engines?

And are the results from the IMO public about those 4-strokes? If there will be news, of course :-)

Fair enough! I got a different impression from a Yanmar dealer a couple of years ago but I must have spoken to the workshop idiot on the phone.

There will be a 25hp 4 stroke, Mercury/Mariner Solas approved very soon. The reason why they have started with that engine is because part of the approval says the engine must have 2 forms of starting. So Rope start and electric, or i guess rope start and emergency rope start where the flywheel has slots cut into it so you can put a rope around the flywheel to start it.
