spark plug issues
Chaps,
trying to fix up my 1996 Johnson 6hp, it runs but badly missing lots, I've had the carb apart and cleaned everything, I've done some research online and it appears to have the wrong plugs to start with - its pig to start once again its been on and needs constant throttle tweaks to keep going or constant high rpm
I gapped these 2 new ones (Champion Copper Core Spark Plug QL77JC4) to 0.30 with feeler gauges which I was told they will go well with the Johnson - the ends are wrong and I checked and they don't unscrew and therefore wont snap fit in to the HT lead -
The original ones in there are badly tarred ngk bh7s I believe are wrong type - wrong heat range and something else, however do have the correct threaded ends that do in to the HT lead -
Any recommendations chaps? thanks in advance

Kit from an auto parts store should be cheap enough...

Try a bike shop, they usually have it on a reel.

dose it snatch at the pull cord when you try to start it?
sounds like the timing might be slightly out...

Your plugs should be ok, but need a wider gap than standard. Try 0.8mm to 1mm. QL77JC4 is direct equivalent to a BZ7HS-10, which is pretty much an NGK B7HS with a 1mm gap.

Yes, I have it on the reel, £2 per m and the correct NGK plug for your motor is a BR6HS, which I may have in stock, if not I can get them.
