SR4 Max engine... 75hp?
Hi,
Anyone know if the SR4 would be ok with a 75hp on? Mines currently got a 60hp on which is old, apart from that it appears ok.
I have access to either a 50hp Mariner or a 75hp Yam, both ex-RNLI and no older than 2005. The 50hp is £1150 and 75hp is £1500.
Obviously the 50hp is the right engine but for the extra pennies what would it be like with the 75hp on?

If you put a Yam 75 on it it'll be waaaay overweight. The 75 weighs the same as the 90.I really wouldn't do it.

Don't those 50s have an 18" mid? If so, the transom may be a touch too high.
I agree with Nos though and wouldn't recommend the 75.

The 50's do have an extension fitted.
Looks like I'm staying with my old Mercury for now.
Thanks for the help lads.

It will be a fun ride on small rivers without waves but if you want to take her out on sea those extra hp are worth nothing...
Not to mention the extra costs for a decent prop etc. (you need sst with big engines on small boats).
