Steering Bracket ?

That type of bracket is very common on boats used on the inland waterways, may be worth ringing a couple of inland outboard engine dealers.

The bracket in Biggles picture is the same as the one we had on a Flatacraft years ago, and is I believe very similar to what Davybuoy has offered.
They do come up on ebay sometimes, but can also still be purchased new.

Hi Jeff,very similar except mine has a shorter "neck" and clamps to the tube with a split nylon bearing to allow the whole cable to swivel while steering,

If you go that route, you'll also need the knuckle which connects to the steering arm. However, from your pictures, your cable is designed to pass throught the tilt tube. As Nos says, take the trouble to clear it out and fit it properly.

Hi,
thanks for the advice, the marine shop called back & said pretty much what you said JWalker, apparently i have the right steering cable to go through the tilt tube & he can supply the pivot kit, i sent him the same pictures as i've posted here, perhaps the scale's look different in the real life than the pic's but the fact of the matter is the square bolt on the end of the steering cable is wider than the tilt tube & the bolt is the same diameter as the rest of the cable, i tried explain this, but was told i can take his advice of leave it, but he was convinced it would fit.........

So i've had a look again & i can still see no way of geting through there the square bolt on the end is wider then tilt tube if i thought there was a chance i'd clean it out.......

I would love to set it up this way as it's def, a neat solution, it appears a bracket is my only option,or change the steering cable that will fit through the tilt tube......

ok you were all right, it will fit through !, it appears it has a plastic sleeve inside it.........sorry all.............any idea's on how to get it out without causing damage !...........

It seems to have metal sleeve, i'm assuming if i take off the large end nuts i can remove it...... can they be removed?i'm not sure this sleeve is normal or perhaps this is the remains of a old cable.

Sorry for all the questions, as you can tell i'm new to all this.....

Mmmm... it does look like an old cable is seriously stuck in there and its been trimmed off. But, if that's the case, it's been finished very nicely. I'm a bit puzzled by it. You are safe to take the nuts off but the tilt tube obviously holds the engine onto the mounting saddle so if you remove it the engine will fall off. Removing the old piece of tube is going to be a bit of a bugger. If you could source a replacement tilt tube you can replace it with the engine in situe provided it's not seized too. Support the bottom of the engine on a jack, take off one of the nuts, begin to tap the tilt tube out, as it is about to leave the first part of the bracket fit the replacement, after lubricating it well, and tap this into place then use it to drift out the old tube. This way the engine always is supported during the process.

For what its worth I wouldn't remove anything until someone on here tells you they have done it or are 100 % certain as to what to do.

You're a bit fekkin cheeky considering the advice you give out. I have replaced a tilt tube in the way I described and on a considerably heavier engine. And I never tell how to do anything I haven't done myself. Happy now?

Thanks for the advice, i'm going to have a quick go trying to tap out the old steering tube, but i suspect the fact it's still in there it's in solid, so i'll be trying to source a tilt tube.

Where do you guy's in the south of England source your Used & New parts ?

Just seen this on ebay, could be what i'm looking for although i'm not 100% sure how it's mounted & will the fact that i do have a tilt tube affect mounting.........
