Steering ID

Hi, sorry if it's in wrong group but I was hoping someone could shed some light on the steering which is already attached to a console I bought.

It's a project I'm making a start on and need to buy a steering cable for my pull start Mariner 40.

As it came with a wheel and hub I'm wondering if it will be salvageable, so I need to look at a suitable cable.

There's no markings on hub or on the cable end which has been bolt cropped off.

If I disconnect cable and took it to a marine suppliers could it be a simple case of just matching it?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest its not much more expensive to buy a full kit of cable helm & wheel then you know everything is good & compatible.
Trying to match cables to helms can be a pita & obviously the helm has already done a life so some wear is almost inevitable you might fit a new cable only to find the helm fails shortly after.
