Steyr Diesel

Does anybody have any experiance of these engines. I am considering installing a pair of the 246hp into a 9 - 10 mtr Ribtec. Have done some research into them and think they look good. Power to weight is better than all the rest and looks like a generally good unit. However, I don't know anybody who has had experiance of them.

Thanks for replies.

they don't have cylinder heads (monoblock)! In theory this could be wonderful, in practice I'm not so sure, river police in the pool of london ran a couple in ribs on jets. A pal of mine bought one off them complete with the spare engine which kept breaking rockers, the old bill put the other engine in when they couldn't suss the rocker business, then there were loads of probs with the new motor overheating. they gave up trying to fix it as a bad cause, my pal bought it along with a couple of 31' watercrafts (normal police boats) as he gets offered all the boats from Wapping when they're taken out of service. he got rid of the rib but still has the f****d engine in his shed at the yard.

But I'm sure they're normaly OK!

P.S. OMC put them on thier stern drives for a while.

That would be great. Any information would be helpfull. I knew they were a monoblock engine but from what john was saying the police didn't have much luck with them.

Maybe they have improved. I looked at them in Mermaid marine as they are the distributors for them. I wonder if your tractor engine could get the same engine cheaper.

Thanks

Stuart
