Suzuki 4 strokes

Am in the process of sourcing a new engine, preferably a 70HP 4 stroke to push along a Lencraft 5.5
Have looked at and am considering Suzuki range and would like to hear any comments on the reliability, niggles, problems, good points etc associated with Suzuki engines.Thanks.
Dave

Hi David

I currently have a 4 Metre Nrwhal with a Suzuki 40 HP (2 Stroke) on he back. I must admit to being very dubious about buying this boat due to the Suzuki engine - but (touch wood) - she hasn't missed a beat - and has given excellent service.

On looking around for my new RIB I did consider the 115 and 140HP 4 Stroke Suzukis - and to be honest may have chosen one if I hadn't come accross a Honda 130 ex demo at a great price.

I do believe that both Avon and Humber RIBs are currently offering pacages with Suzuki engines - which must give them some degree of credibility!

On my research I did find that the new Suzukis are a serious threat to Yamaha and Honda - though I guess only time will tell.

Hi David,
Have you considered a Mercury/Mariner 4 Stroke. The Suzuki 70HP weighs in at a hefty 163KG compared to 112KG for a Mercury/Mariner 60EFI 4stroke, almost 50KG lighter!!. Even the Mercury/Mariner 115EFI 4stoke weighs in at 175KG.
Check out http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...ubb=forum&f=17 there is plenty of information regarding Suzuki outboards plus others here. (Check out 'Suzuki Warranty nightmare')
I have Mariner 60EFI 4 stroke on my 4.8M Ribcraft and its a great outboard
Best of luck with your choice!!

good luck david and take on board what jcw says.

i have a suzuki 70 driving a valiant 5.2. all i can say is that it never gives me any trouble. i am prejudiced though - i find that japanese engines are very very boring i.e. they just work. ive been told that its the same engine as the suzuki swift car so you get all that mass production engineering reliability
