Suzuki df15 (2012) dies with throttle

Hi,
I have had several issues with my df15 over the years. The last one now is that after a cold start it idles fine, but when trying to give a little throttle it dies. It gets too much fuel or something? All I need to do is to try and retry a few times once I get the rpm up in neutral it is fine. I have cleaned the carboreuter, adjusted the valves, changed plugs and fuel filter, cleaned out old fuel snd checked the choke solenoid and fuel pump. Any ideas what this could be?

Are you saying it starts from cold and idles OK on choke but you can't rev without stalling in this initial period on choke?

When you say its better after revving a few times in neutral is that still with the choke out or when a bit warmer with the choke pushed in after a few minutes?

Yes, correct. Easy to start when it is cold, idles fine. But when i push the throttle either in gear or neutral it stops. After a little time and a few tries it will «get over it». The choke is automatic, I was told it gradually decreases the choke from 100 to 0% over the course of 6 min. So if this is right I am thinking it gets too much when the choke is close to 100%, as time passes it gets less and manage to run ok again. But this is just my own hypotesis.

Is there some way to adjust the choke? I could begin there.

If it’s a modern DF15 then it’ll be fuel injection, so no choke as such. There’s an idle air control valve which could be the culprit, but I’d start by making sure there’s a clean supply of good fuel to the high pressure pump. So;

- Change fuel with fresh fuel, if there’s any older fuel in the system or tank
- Check for any air leaks in the system such as a split primer bulb
- Replace engine low pressure fuel filter. If this has been done in the last couple of years then it’s probably not this.
- Clean out vapour separator tank and high pressure fuel pump gauze.

Has the boat been sitting over the winter and what year is the engine? Sounds like a fuel issue anyway and it’s not too hard to work through the system to eliminate the potential problem points.

Thanks, this is a 2012, it is four stroke, but no fuel injection or similar. Just a regular membrane low pressure fuel pump. This typically was an issue that arose after this hard winter and outdoor storage in the garden. I think i am done with that, it cannot take it. I have replaced all fuel and put in a new filter.

Blocked or partially blocked main jet

It seems ok, but I notice the holes are not symmetric. Does the orientation matter? There is nothing to indicate how it shall be put in.

Think you may be looking at the emulsion tube. The jet feeds that and will probably be in your float bowl

So it runs great once warm? A simple adjustment is probably all it needed, to compensate for a slightly blocked jet. It is not uncommon for lean emission carbs to struggle when cold. Often they "sneeze" back out thru the carb.

To clean the jets you must either use an ultrasonic cleaner, or high pressure air and chems, with the best being both. Acetone can remove gummy stuff on the jets, but don't get it on anything plastic. You can buy chems in spray cans like "carb cleaner" to assist.

Thanks all, I ended up breaking a spark plug when tighting up. So, I ended up sending it to the engine shop. Hope they can fix it.
