Suzuki DF200 / DF250

Anyone know how much these 4-strokes cost? Thinking about one of those instead of the ubiqitous Optimax motors.

If you're think of buying one to save money, be careful! They are great engines. Quiet, smooth, refined and (touch wood) reliable. If that's what you're after then go for it. Just remember to factor in service costs and the fact that at full chat they use plenty of fuel.....

You should talk to Ian about it, he has a 250 on his Pro sport, it sounds like he is very happy with the engine.

Don't worry Jono - I'm listening!

How much fuel do you get through with yours? It's gotta be more efficient than an Optimax, surely?

Are the new 4 strokes REALLY that much better in the real world?

Buy a slightly used 2 stroke efi of the same size off someone who has just bought a fancy new 4 stroke and save about £7000 - that will buy a lot of petrol - when you work out how long it will take to make up the difference it is scary!

Haven't run it yet - haven't got a boat!!!!

I bought a 225 efi suzuki brand new - last of the 2 strokes - supposed to be a really good engine - only paid £5000 - full 3 yr guarantee - got to be about HALF the price of a new 4 stroke of the same power!

USA dealers are a good bet - just check them out first and watch the import duty etc - the £ is very strong against the $ at the moment.

I have also spotted quite a few engines for sale in the UK in the £3000 price bracket - prob cos of people upgrading to 4 strokes!

Tempting indeed. Sending it back for a warranty claim might prove expensive though, unless they'd be prepared to subcontract repairs to a UK dealer
