Suzuki Service and Warranty Claims advice

As per my previous outboard issue thread.
Not sure if all this has been covered before but i figured it might be useful info for some.

I received this reply today from Suzuki UK regarding me not getting my new outboard serviced as per their schedule due to covidcand health issues etc
and if I would be on my own if there was an issue normally covered by the warranty if it had not been serviced.

I did tell them it had only been run in a barrel a couple of times since new and used for few minutes last week, and had only completed approx 1 hr total

"Thank you for your e-mail regarding servicing and warranty on your engine.

I can confirm that the first service interval was 1 month or 20 hours, whichever comes first. As the engine was first registered on 7th July 2021, the first service should of been in August 2021, which means the vehicle is 8 months late for its first service. Taking this into consideration, we would advise that the engine is serviced as soon as possible.

In regards to the warranty, if there is any issues as a result of the lack of servicing, then that particular issue would not be covered under the manufacturer's warranty, it does not completely void the manufacturer's warranty."

So not all is lost, and in theory it would still be worth me getting the OB serviced at least once by a Suzuki approved engineer soon., at least this time.

But of course as with any claim you would need to prove the issue wasn't related to one of their exclusions, (in this case, lack of servicing) regardless if the motor had ever been run or not.

What a corporate reply, very inflexable!

I not familiar with Suzuki's warranty length and conditions. However, Mercury state that the 5 year warranty is only applicable if every service has been done on time, if not the OB is only under warranty for 2 years. If Suzuki is the same, I would suggest that you have this "20" hour service done and have it serviced again at 23 months, thereby giving you a chance to get anything sorted before the end of the 2 year warranty.

Yip warranty only as good as your first claim but to be fair with previous cars Kia and Skoda...their warranty service was excellent for many years.
What I've read online at least with suzuki...I don't actually except the same....but we will see!

12 months/100 hrs with suzuki after the first 20hr.

I think I did read somewhere about an extended with suzuki but I'm guessing it wasn't with them direct and only through a third party insurance type thing which I imagine would be void.

So yeah probably this first one and at least one more service, then consider going the self service route at least for basic yearly oils etc depending on what hours I run up meantime!
