Switching Avon SR 5.4 from twins to single

Hello all,

I am interested in switching my Avon SR 5.4 from twin MAriner 40's to an E-tec 90. My transom is not notched and the drain sock is centerline ( set up for twins ). Does anyone have any experience or insight into this. Im interested to know if a 20" shaft will still work with the higher transom.

Thanks!

A 20" shaft probably won't work with the higher transom. Mine engine (Yam 85, 20" shaft, single engine transom) is up one bolt hole and I wouldn't want it any higher.

It'd be a better boat with a longer shaft and a higher transom anyway-it might go astern without swamping

I was thinking the same thing, a little more transom is a good thing on that boat. Im away from the boat and just trying to figure this out. I'll put a tape on the transom when I get home, perhaps a 25" shaft will be necessary.
