Dan

Im away as from tomorrow for a week as discussed on the slipway. If you dont get the answer off the forum tonight, phone up Peter where i work and ask him for it. And then give it a go,its normally set at cranking speed on starter motor.
Thanks for comments on p22 still a lot to do awaiting on Nev to sort some bits out.

thanks paul

the guy with me on the slip is a AA patrol man / raceing truck fitter.
and saw the problem as some thing to have a go at to day on dry land
from your comments we sorted the carbs out cleaned them all and they are now balanced its now runing at 800 rpm and stays at 800 rpm in gear
we will try it out on the thames in the morning

you were well right the carbs were well out and needed a good clean

it running very well on dry land now we used a big drum of water to get the right back pressure

he just wanted to check the timeing as we have no manual to use

thank for your help if its still playing up i ring peter

last time i saw the pac 22 it was looking a bit of a mess but it looked very good and a credit to you and the boys who sorting it out
well done

see you soon dan

Timing

I popped in today and checked up before going away, its 2-6deg ATDC at cranking speed.
Glad you got it sorted.

Not to sure were you got that from but its completely wrong.

Idle timing is T.D.C - 2deg BTDC (you dont do timimg at 1000rpm)
Idle speed in gear is 675 Rpm +/- 25
Max timimg 22deg BTDC
Cranking speed is 24deg BTDC.

thanks turbodiesel

i had big problems with the engine stalling when in gear at idle one carb screw was right out and it kept stalling when i put in gear i asked the mercury
dealer to sort it out two times. but each time when i got it back it was all ways the same after a big bill to pay
he aways said it should run at 1000rpm in idle when in the water

we have now stripped and cleaned the carbs and balanced them and the idle is now about 750 rpm
and about 700rpm in gear but we wanted to check the timing to be sure it was set right

we checked the timming with a strobe at 1000 its o tdc

i will drop the idle speed to 700 rpm and check the timming out i think the mercury rev count is not the best as it moves about a bit

thanks

dan
