Tohatsu 15 hp fourstroke

I used my Tohatsu for the first time since October last weekend. It had been winterised properly and de winterised before then. However when I started it the warning light came on and it wouldn't rev far past Tickover with the fast idle. I then switched the engine off and started it again and it worked fine. Has anyone had this problem before?

When you say "De winterised " What was done , it could be a number of things but i have noticed that the warning light takes a while to go off on mine if its been stood a few months might just be a sticking oil sensor & if the engine wouldn't run fast enough to put the light off .

Also If fogging oil was squirted into the carb to winterise & the plugs haven't been cleaned it could have just clogged one up until it burned the oil off or gummed up one of the jets in the carb until the petrol dissolved it .

By de winterised I cleaned the excess oil from the cylinders and then just changed the engine oil. I didn't go near the carb. You are probably right about it was just burning off some extra oil.
Thanks

Possibly took it out of winterisation too early, as its still winter! Mine still tucked up until March.
