Tohatsu 50 same as 60?????

Hi Everyone,

Could someone tell me if a 2007 Tohatsu 50hp is the same engine as the 2007 60hp...
Basically I would like to know if the 50 can be upgraded to 60hp or is it a totally different engine. (i know Tohatsu 25hp is the same as a 30hp and just needs a few simple mods to upgrade, just wondering if the 60 is an upgraded 50 or downgraded 70)

The engine is 2 stroke in black paint with the red flash on the cowl with power trim and tilt.

Many Thanks
Howy

The Twatsoo 60 and 70 two strokers are the same block and so the 60 can be upgraded to the 70. I believe the 40 and 50 share the same smaller block so the 50 can not be upgraded further....

Yes, if its the two stroke motor.

I believe it is a little mod to the carbs jetting and/or reed valves. Speak to Tim at Menai, he may have the full info.

The power difference would be very noticeable on a Menai 480. Yoyo can manage 42mph according to the GPS in favourable conditions . and the holeshot is awsome.

PS. Was that you out in the straights in the blue menai 480 during the Easter ribnet cruise?

As far as know the only difference is the adjustment of the throttle advance stop. The 60C uses upper carb housing 3F5-032001, where as the 70C uses 3F3-03200-1. On the upper carb (60C) you'll notice the carb opening is limited. It can be adjusted. However before any adjustment, you'll need to ensure it doesn't over-rev due to boat weight, prop choice, etc. The 60/70C full throttle speed range is 5,150 - 5,850rpm. Before doing anything - check the engine tacho at WOT.

Yes it was us on the easter cruise in the straits -it was only the second time out so we were not really kitted out for the full cruise. In fact for some reason as we were going down the straits we lost revs which I think was associated with a kinked fuel line.

We have been out a couple of times since then once with Cookie around Puffin island.

We are planning to go out again on Sun 26 if you are interested. Our boats is near Chris's who does the launches from white cottage.

The boat is new but the outboard is a secondhand 2 stroke 60hp. I am just getting to know it. Last time out it missfired a couple of times at high revs. I plan to change the plugs before next trip. Any other suggestions?

I have had 34mph so it looks a good bet to upgrade it to 70hp

No. Still to launch the boat. Just finished rigging it last weekend. Launch set for next Sunday, weather permitting.

New sparks, yes. Also check the HT leads, fuel filter, etc. What's the age of the outboard?

If it persists, then look at stripping carbs and cleaning. Could be old fuel.

Yeah I thought it must have been you when I read your post. Ste Bright got a pic of you on the day when you tagged along for a while.
